REPORT of the DIRECTOR OF COLONIAL AUDIT on the Account

of the Treasurer of Hong Kong for the year ended the

31st of December, 1925.

As certified thereon, the above mentioned Account,

together with the Statement of Assets and Liabilities on

the 31st of December, 1925, has been examined under my

directions.

2. The questions which arose in the course of

examination have been satisfactorily settled as far as

possible, but a few points are still awaiting final

settlement.

3. The Statement of Assets and Liabilities on the

31st of December, 1925, as rendered, records a surplus

balance of $8,113,482.68. This balance has apparently

been increased by $28,385.39 owing to the transfer of

that amount from the "Adjustment of Exchange Account"

direct to the "Surplus and Deficit Account" in contra-

vention of Colonial Regulation No.345.

The question of the treatment of the "Adjustment

of Exchange Account" has been fully dealt with in a

despatch (No: 431 of the 26th of November, 1925) from

the Secretary of State to the Governor of Hong Kong to

which, as far as I am aware, no reply has yet been

received.

I have not seen the authority of the Secretary

of State for all of the excesses on sub-heads which are

recorded in the Appropriation Account for the year 1925.
